Three Southern Nevada Cities Named Best Places to Live Without a College Degree

best places to live without a college degree las vegas, henderson and north las vegasWhile obtaining a college degree is more important than ever, skyrocketing tuition costs and obscene levels of student loan debt are making many people question the benefits of a college degree given the amount of money it costs. But this is not a blog about the pros and cons of getting a college degree. I recently came upon an article on Movoto.com that ranked three southern Nevada cities in the top ten places to live without a college degree. The cities, along with their corresponding rankings included:

I’m not surprised three of our local communities made the list. The Las Vegas area has always been a place where folks could carve out a good living with or without a degree. This simply isn’t possible for many other communities in the United States. Folks without degrees living in other communities are often relegated to menial, minimum wage jobs with little to no chance of upward mobility.

And with the housing market steadying, southern Nevada is one of the few places left where not only can people without college degrees earn a decent living – they are also able to achieve the dream of owning a home.

The average price of condominiums in Las Vegas are just over $100,000. And the average priced homes for sale in Las Vegas are just $200,000. These low prices mean homeownership is well within the reach of people who are historically relegated to renting. For example, a mortgage for a property costing $200,000 would cost just over $1,000 per month based upon a 30-year fixed mortgage with an interest rate of 4%.

It’s these stories, and others like them, which are why I love being a Las Vegas realtor. I get to help people achieve the dream of owning their own home every day. I’m definitely lucky.

So whether you’re already living in southern Nevada, or are thinking of moving out this way, I can tell you first hand, this is a great place to live. And just in case you’re wondering, the rankings were based upon statistics including median annual income for people without a college degree, unemployment rate for people without a college degree, and percentage of people without a college degree with health insurance.

So whether you have a college degree or not, southern Nevada is a place where anyone can achieve their dream of owning a home.
